Soil Probe Reading Guide

How to read your T-handle probe & what each level means

Dry
Core crumbles, no cohesion, dusty, falls apart in hand.
Severe stress — photosynthesis halted, permanent root damage risk.
⚠️ Irrigate immediately
Slightly Dry
Core barely holds shape, no moisture on hand, surface cracks visible.
Mild stress. OK 2–3 weeks pre-harvest only.
Irrigate within 24 hrs
Moist ✅
Core holds shape, cool and damp, slight sheen, no dripping.
Ideal — roots actively absorbing. Target zone bud break through veraison.
No action needed
Wet
Very cohesive, water visible on hands, heavy and cold.
Root rot and fungal disease risk if prolonged.
Skip irrigation, check drainage
Saturated
Water drips from core, soil slumps on extraction.
Anoxic — roots suffocating within 24–48 hrs.
🚨 Fix drainage immediately
💡 Field Tips
• Push probe 12–18 inches deep, mid-row, away from drip emitters
• Always probe the same spot each visit
Fruit set & veraison: keep Moist — most critical periods
Pre-harvest: 2–4 weeks Slightly Dry concentrates sugars — intentional only

How to Add & Edit Blocks

Set up your vineyard blocks and record daily readings

1
Go to the Blocks tab (bottom left). Your blocks are listed there — tap any block to expand it.
2
To add a new block, tap + Block in the toolbar. Fill in block number, name, and grape variety.
3
To record a reading, expand a block and tap a moisture level — Dry, S.Dry, Moist, Wet, or Sat. Date and time fill in automatically.
4
Set Irrigate Yes/No, add notes, and attach photos. Blocks needing irrigation sort to the top automatically.
5
When done for the day tap ✅ Save Day in the toolbar. This saves all readings to History and clears daily fields for tomorrow.
6
Use the vineyard dropdown in the header to switch between Gamache, Baccus, Dionysus, Sagemoor, and Weinbau — each has its own blocks.
